Foster Program
09/26/09 13:14
Greetings to All
Drizzly wet day here, overcast and hinting of Fall.
The PAEP Board has been reviewing our Foster Program. We have over 30 people hosting foster birds for us at the moment. For the most part a great group. A few are not keeping with the foster agreement, so we are again working to modify and update the program.
It is always our goal to get the birds adopted into their next good home, and we thank all our foster volunteers for hosting the birds while waiting.
Our Foster page has grown, and not all are listed--we're trying to keep up. Because we do list them on our own website, there isn't a current need to go throught PetFinder and have national exposure. When people from out of our area inquire to adopt, we cannot accomodate them--we won't ship birds.
Our recent event hosting the speaker Rebecca K O'Connor went well. Not a large crowd; we enjoyed more specific learning and training suggestions. If anyone has questions or concerns regarding their parrot's behaviors please e-mail and we'll get to work on that with you. Her main point was how important it is to have well-behaved parrots, for them now and in the future--and for others in the flock and family. Her main goal while here was to help us understand we need to have FUN with our parrots and people!!!
Enjoy the birds!

Happy Birthday Renee!

Aloha again this time from an "Old Timer" OY! Hit the big five-oh on Sunday.
Because of that, was busy celebrating with friends and family so didn't give too much volunteer time to the birds. Which means I missed some calls, and have alot of correspondence to catch up with this week.
Also this week, taking in a Senegal this eve, an amazon tomorrow. A white-cap pionus and a white-front amazon are expected in soon.
The Ducorps arrived Sunday afternoon. I'd pre-arranged a visitor so she came today, and does like the bird so will come tomorrow to pick up the bird and cage.
Had gotten the male Ekkie (Eclectus) last week, and he's adjusting fine. Great vocabulary! Very different from my Murphy (the silent one).
Fosters for Jojo the Double Yellow Head picked him up Sunday, and reports are all is well. They are also asking to foster two more birds, which should also go just as smoothly. Those will be the Brown Head Parrot and one of the Blue Front Amazons, Heidi.
Another foster family is asking for Choley the Nanday, and a couple other birds. They have lots of room too, and Macaws there already.

Open House

Aloha, All
Super to have all the volunteer help, visitors, contributors--and two vendors!!
Done with the two-day open house, now sorting out which birds went where, with which cages and supplies. Birds and items staying at this location for the next month.
Rare treat---went home to ONLY our own birds!! No fosters at the house, for now. Gosh, was done changing waters and foods in 90 minutes, instead of hours. Then the Macaws decide to bathe. Back into the room to refill waters, spray em, mop up.
But then, got to work and still have to go over to feed/water the fosters here, and clean cages, sweep, all that. Same work, two locations. While it does get the foster birds out of our home, it does mean additional work, plus the birds are NOT in foster homes, as is our goal. This facility isn't as conducive to bird and cage care, either.
Not whining, just stating facts.

New Website!

Welcome to our new website! We’ll have it up and running properly as soon as possible - please bear with us during the transition.
We’ll be introducing new features like videos and a blog. If we get smarter there may even be more fancy stuff! (It could happen)
