Housing your parrot
You should not cut costs when it comes to housing your
parrot. This is the place your parrot spends its time when you’re not around. It
needs to have room for your friend to stretch and play. If you have a parrot
with a long tail, it needs room so it doesn’t hit and break it. Make sure the
bar spacing is fitting for the size of bird. Make sure they can’t get their head
through them. Your larger parrot needs to have bars strong enough to handle
their big toys and strong beaks. Think of you spending the day in a closet, and
try to imagine how much space your bird will need to be comfortable, if he had
to spend the day there. Cages are necessary to have, or your bird could get into
many dangers when you aren’t around. They also like a safe place they can call
their own. Just make sure they are out of it many hours a day.
There are many good cage companies out there. Make sure
they don’t use zinc or lead. The paint should be powder coated or be straight
stainless steel.
Have fun when decorating your bird’s cage. Provide lots of
safe toys and perches of many shapes and textures. Be careful not to have ropes
or string with loops to get your parrot caught in. We use different things for
different bird’s interests. They all seem to like bells, and wood to chew. Visit
one of our great local parrot stores to see different ideas. We have shown some
pictures for ideas, but use your imagination and have fun!
