Bath Time!

Parrots need their showers. They need them to keep their feathers at their best. It also helps you, as it keeps their dust to a minimum. If they were in the wild they would be rained on daily. Ideally a parrot could use a light misting daily, and a good soaking a couple of times a week. Each parrot has its preference on how it may like to bathe. Some will like the gentle spray from a plant mister filled with warm tap water, or a shower with you! Other birds may prefer a “bath tub”. You could keep a shallow dish in or on their cage. You could also try a gentle trickle of water in the bathroom sink. If you use the kitchen sink, remove the strainer as the parrot’s toe could get stuck in the holes.

It's best to not bathe your parrot in the evening. They may not be dry at bedtime which can cause them to be chilled. It's nice to bathe them in the morning. Then they can be busy preening while you're away at work.

If baths are new to your parrot, you may need to do this slowly as the water may scare them. Be patient. It’s important they learn this is good. NEVER discipline your parrot with water for any reason. They should love water - spraying them harshly will only cause them to be neurotic.
